Shoe Social

A Shoe Social

This program can be adapted to either a fellowship program or a family night.

To raise money, try either of the following in connection with this program:

Cinderella Shoe Social
To advertise the event, send out flyers and make posters with pictures of Cinderella trying on her slipper. Under the heading give date, time and place and add this jingle:
Admission charge is by the foot –
A penny an inch on your sole.
A prince will check on every boot;
He prefers them big on the whole.
At the door of the hall or room where the social is to be held, guests are greeted by a “prince.” A yardstick is fastened to the floor, and each guest must place her foot on it and be measured before entering.

Shoe Social
For announcements and coin collector, cut out shoes from mail order catalogs or newspapers and paste on coin envelopes. Use verse 1, and/or verse 2. Fold and insert in envelope. Send out in the mail to members only or give to members to send out to friends.

Verse 1
I have a little story, it’s very sad, I know:
The funds of our Home League are running very low!
Now all I ask of you is to place within this shoe
The number of your footwear-size, multiplied by two!
Verse 2
Self Denial is coming soon, and our league must do its part
To help the work in foreign lands, so give this from your heart.
Bring it the “Shoe Social” at (time), (day), the (date) is the day;
Come and enjoy our program The Army Home League way!
PROGRAM IDEAS

1. A shoe fashion show could be staged, using styles from the past and present. A shoe manufacturer may loan a film, or perhaps you might find a film about shoes in the library.

2. The story of Cinderella can be acted out in pantomime – perhaps as a comedy.

GAMES
1. Shoe lacing contest.

2. Mad Shoe Scramble: Remove shoes and pile in the middle of a circle. At a signal, players scramble for their own shoes. First one properly shod wins.

3. Finding the mate: This can be played by having on hand a number of pairs of shoes – at least four to six shoes for each player. Mix them up in a basket or shopping bags. As music plays, players march in a circle, taking a shoe at a time as they pass the basket, each time around. Any player finishing up with a pair wins. If you should not have a winner by then, each player throws two shoes back in for another time around – after that, the first one to match a pair wins.

REFRESHMENTS
A “shoe box lunch” would be appropriate, to be shared by two people.
